Dental Implants
Dental implants are more stable and efficient than dentures and dental bridges, and they can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Implants are titanium cylinders or screws that are placed into the bone. After an extended healing period, the crown of the tooth is then secured to the implant. In conjunction with partial dentures, tooth implants help to build a solid foundation to assist with stabilization. Implants also prevent further bone loss and even stimulate bone growth.
Two main advantages of an implant include the following:
-
The surrounding healthy teeth are not affected by resin, crowns, or bridges
-
The bone under the gums is stimulated to maintain itself and stays healthy
A traditional fixed bridge requires significant reduction of adjacent and otherwise healthy teeth. With an implant, adjacent teeth are not altered, allowing them to thrive with the implant and the strengthening bone underneath. In addition, dental implant crowns are retrievable and repairable, and no hooks or attachment devices are needed. Another benefit is that implants can look and feel just like real teeth, and they are extremely durable.
Are Dental Implants a good choice for me?
If you are missing one or more teeth, you are a candidate for a dental implant procedure. By utilizing 3-D dental imaging, digital x-rays, impressions, and a thorough exam, we can determine if the quality and quantity of bone are limiting factors for this procedure. Although individual evaluation is necessary, Dr. Santilli and his highly qualified staff are confident in finding the perfect solution for every patient.
