What is a Root Canal?
Root canal or endodontic treatment allows for the preservation of a tooth in which injury or infection has occurred to the pulp.
Treatment of such teeth begins with a clinical and radiographic examination. Once a diagnosis of pulpal involvement is made, the procedure involves removing the diseased tissue from the root and the canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. The tooth can function normally since the supporting structures remain intact. This type of therapy may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. We provide nitrous oxide analgesia if needed. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success in unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment.
Root canal treatment is one of the most common dental procedures performed; well over 14 million cases every year. Success for this type of treatment occurs in approximately 90% of cases.
